Hoffmannius spinigerus is a medium sized scorpion from the
southwestern United States. The individual in this photo is a
juvenile I found in central Arizona. You can find them under
rocks and debris. I was in Tucson once with someone who stepped
on one in a motel room at 3 AM. I am sorry to say this incident
resulted in the only death I know of from stepping on a scorpion
in the United States, the scorpion died.
Until recently, Hoffmannius spinigerus was known as Vaejovis spinigerus.
They are easy to keep and eat crickets readily.
I have fed the young flightless fruitflies.
